Wouldn’t it be great if Amazon created a separate category of “enterprise” accounts to buy ebooks and other online media from the kindle store? I work for a team of 30 people spread across at least 6 locations, with common reading interests. We also have several “mandatory” readings, and it hardly makes sense to buy physical copies of books for everyone, or even 1 book for each location. Instead, Kindle can offer “library” or “enterprise” accounts, that allow more than 5 people read the same book at a time, while allowing n number of users to register the account on their reading device (currently restricted to 5 devices). They could charge an annual subscription fee for such accounts, to amount for usage fees.

This would morph into creating a community reading experience – I could mark a section of the text and tag person A, and mark another section and tag it for person B, based on what I think would be useful to them. Each page/section could also have a doodling space (part of the kindle app, not the book), that allows readers to write summaries, key takeaways, or jokes. I guess we essentially allow for the equivalent of “like”, “comment”, “tag” from the well-understood FB interface. The new-and-improved Kindle app would also tell me if someone from my team was currently reading, and how slow or fast 🙂

I can easily see this being useful for libraries within enterprises, big teams in enterprises, book clubs where all the members buy the same book and discuss it after, a close circle of friends, schools, colleges, educational and training institutes.

What are some other features, and other user types you can think of for such a product?

Awesome idea! Maybe extend the app to offer features that can capture feedback on the content, structuring, research references etc. and send it back to the writer. Any form of feedback is always welcome to a writer.
